The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and fill the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
